Rewinding a few years to 2019, my workdays looked like long hours in the newsroom and many cups of coffee to keep me going. 

I'd drive home on autopilot, and my mind was foggy. I was going to nod off at any second.

Then more often than not, I sat still in my car, parked outside my apartment, completely drained.

The thought of walking up just a dozen stairs felt like, to be dramatic, climbing a mountain. I would sit there, with the car engine off, feeling numb in a freeze state.

I spent most of the night venting to my boyfriend, Stephen, about all the work stress I had to deal with, which didn't help our relationship.

I couldn't fully relax and would finally pass out in bed without preparing for the next day. I felt like I was behind and not doing enough, despite overworking.

Most days, my anxiety took over. I felt tension in my chest, even when I didn't really know what I was anxious about. One thing was for sure: I was incredibly hard on myself, thinking I should be able to handle it all.

This inner critic only left me feeling even more tired. It was in these moments that I realized this wasn't the way to live and began my journey through therapy and self-care.
